As Coach Dick Meader’s right arm for the Men’s Basketball Team (trainer, equipment manager and statistician) during his four years at Thomas, Al’s most notable athletic accomplishments have come after his graduation from Thomas.
Since 1987, Albert has been head coach of the Madison High School Girls’ Varsity Basketball program, compiling 315 wins over 27 seasons – and counting. During his time, his teams have achieved four Mountain Valley Conference (MVC) titles and three Western Maine Class “C” titles, and Al has been recognized as MVC and Morning Sentinel Coach of the Year and selected as Maine MacDonald’s All-Start Basketball Coach on multiple occasions.
Albert coached the Madison Varsity Softball Team for 18 years, retiring in 2013 with a record of 246-86. During this time the Lady Bulldogs were State Class “S” Champs three times, MVC Champs four times, and Western Conference Class “C” Champs five times.
Al has taught at Madison Jr. High School since 1987, was the towns recreation director for 16 years, and has served several terms as selectman.
To the people of Madison, Albert Veneziano is “Mr. Madison”.
