Baseball Splits NAC Twin Bill vs Husson University

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Waterville, ME – The Terriers took on the Husson University Eagles on Wednesday, April 23rd for NAC Conference Doubleheaders and ended the series by splitting, falling 4-2 in game one and taking the win in game two 15-7. In game one the Terriers had the lead until all four runs were added by Husson in the top of the seventh inning. In game two, Thomas scored twelve of their fifteen runs in the sixth inning.

Game 1
 
How it Happened:
  • After moving runners up to second and third base in the first inning and unable to get them in, Thomas added their only two runs of the game in the second inning
  • Elijah Morton scored Matt Seymour with a double to right field, then scored himself of a double from Tony Meza
  • Before the Eagles added their runs, Thomas had the opportunities in the fourth, fifth, and sixth inning to bring in runs, but were unable to
  • The Eagles added all four of their runs at the top of the seventh inning off four hits and one Terrier error, final score 4-2 Husson
 
The Pitchers:
Zach Nickerson started on the mound for the Terriers pitching through the first four innings, before being relieved in the fifth. Nickerson finished with six strikeouts, allowing only three hits. Daniel May came in to finish out the fifth inning for Nickerson. Andrew Pruell pitched the final two innings, allowing four hits and four runs, striking out one batter.
 
Game 2
 
How it Happened:
  • The Terriers started game two from behind as the Eagles put the first run on the board in the second inning
  • Thomas added two runs during the third inning off a two-run single from Patrick Temby, scoring Morton and Meza
  • The Eagles did not pull back adding three runs at the top of the fourth, off a home run and infield RBI, 3-2 Husson
  • Two more runs got added by Husson in the fourth inning before Terriers changed pitchers, 5-2 Husson
  • The bottom of the sixth inning was the Terriers big breakout, getting twelve runs off three Husson errors, five singles from Temby, Seymour, Reid Gagnon, Jason Bartlett, and Austin Stebbins. Both Morton and Nick Huston ended the inning with doubles, 15-5 Thomas
  • The Eagles got back two runs in the seventh inning off a home run, but could not match the Terriers huge rally, final score 15-7 Thomas
 
The Pitchers:
The Terriers started with Arthur Aranda on the mound, Aranda pitched three full innings before being relieved in the fourth by Wyatt Thompson. Thompson pitched four the fourth inning and part of the fifth, before Jacob Schubert took over. Schubert picked up the win for the Terriers and ended with four strikeouts off twelve batters faced. Jarrad Willette pitched to the final batter after Schubert allowed a two-run home run and put two runners on base.
 
What is Next:
The Terriers will travel to Lyndonville, Vermont to play Northern Vermont University Lyndon on Thursday, April 27th at 1:30 and 4:30pm.
