Box Score AUBURNDALE, Florida – The Thomas College baseball team completed their spring trip with a 9-2 loss to Depauw on Wednesday afternoon at Lake Myrtle Field.
The Terriers fall to 1-12 (1-1 NAC) on the season while the Tigers improve to 13-4.
Freshman Jonah Gorgone (Casselberry, Fla.) took to the mound for the Terriers, holding a tough Tigers' offense to one hit in the first two frames.
Depauw put three runs on the board in the third inning on a two-RBI double from Jack Thompson. Thompson eventually scored as a missed catch on a steal attempt at third base.
The Terriers offense responded in the top of the fifth as Alex Curtis (Monmouth, Maine) led off with a single down the left field line. Grant Corbett (Manchester, N.H.) followed with a triple to right center to score Curtis. Corbett scored to cut the lead down to one after reaching safely on a sacrifice fly from Rett Adams. (Atlanta, Ga.).
In the bottom half of the inning, the Tigers were threatening with two runners on and two outs. Clean-up hitter Mike Hammel hit a shot to left field that cleared the fence for a three-run homerun.
The Tigers scored three more unearned runs in the eighth on two errors to finish at 9-2.
The Terriers will be back in action on Friday, March 31 as they travel to Husson for a conference doubleheader at 3:30 p.m.
