Terriers Dominate Badgers in Conference Opener 10-0

JOHNSON, VT – The Thomas College men's soccer team dominated early and often in a 10-0 victory in their North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener on Saturday afternoon at Johnson State.

In the win, the Terriers earn their first victory of 2016, improving to 1-2-1 (1-0 NAC) while the Badgers drop to 1-6 (0-1 NAC).  DJ Nicholas (Portland, Maine / North Yarmouth Academy) and Nawfal El-Antri (Dorchester, Mass. / Bunker Hill) each scored two goals for Thomas while Diondre Dowling (Southampton, Bermuda / Berkeley Institute) chipped in with three assists.

The Terriers came out firing on offense in the first half with a total of six goals for a 6-0 lead.  Nicholas put away two goals in the first thirteen minutes on assists from Dowling and Tevin Reid (Dorchester, Mass. / Bunker Hill).  Five minutes after, Reid chipped in his first goal as a Terrier for a 3-0 lead.  At the 32nd and 36th minute, El-Antri scored two quick goals and London Steede-Jackson (Hamilton Parish, Bermuda / Cedarbridge Academy) scored in 43rd minute to finish the first half scoring at 6-0 Terriers.

The Terriers went on to add four more goals in the second half from four different players.  Josh Morrissey (Scarborough, Maine / Scarborough), Ibrahim Moustapher (Blantyre, Malawi / Hebron Academy), Baramee Janla (Winter Harbor, Maine / Sumner Memorial), and Rasmus Loso (Jarfalla, Sweden / Sam Gymnasium) each added a goal in the second half for the 10-0 victory.  Morrissey's goal was the first collegiate point for the freshman.

Senior Joakim Sternas (Stockholm, Sweden / Bromma Gymnasium) earned the shutout win in goal for the Terriers, stopping four shots while Gerrit Lane made 12 saves in the loss for the Badgers.  Thomas held a 32-8 advantage in shots and 5-1 in corners.

The Terriers will continue their NAC schedule as they host Maine Maritime on Tuesday, September 20, in a 5:00 p.m. matchup at Smith Field.
