Box Score WATERVILLE, ME – The Thomas men's soccer team and the Colby-Sawyer Chargers played 110 minutes to a 1-1 tie in a critical North Atlantic Conference match this evening at Smith Field.
The Terriers (8-3-3, 5-1-2 NAC) got started in the 8th minute when Zeon Robinson led a through pass for London Steede-Jackson who finished it past Charger keeper Nick Austin for his fifth goal on the season and the early Thomas lead.
Dakota Duplissie nearly added another in the 14th minute when he took a sliding shot from the right that hit off the left post and deflected back across the goal to Austin.
Colby-Sawyer (10-4-2, 6-1-1 NAC) would notch the equalizer in the 21st minute when Andrew Clothier received a pass in the middle from Eddie Garcia and put it by Terriers keeper Joakim Sternas to even the score at 1-1. That score would hold to the end of the first half.
Thomas held a 10-3 shot advantage, but Colby-Sawyer was able to score on their only on goal opportunity. Both teams combined for 13 fouls.
The second half was a fierce back and forth battle for 45 minutes that led to no goals being scored. Thomas held a 12-3 advantage in shots and had multiple chances that were just missed.
In the first overtime, neither team could manage to put a shot on the goal. Colby-Sawyer had a few corner opportunities at the end of the period, but were denied by Thomas.
In the second overtime, Sternas made his only two saves in the match to keep the Terriers alive. Kevin Parsons had a chance to win it, but his header attempt went off the crossbar after being deflected by Austin for one of his nine saves.
Thomas held a 10-3 edge over Colby-Sawyer in shots on goal, and each team had 10 fouls and five corners on the night.
The men's soccer team will now close out their regular season tomorrow afternoon, when they play host to New England College at 2:30pm.
