Box Score Waterville, Maine – It took two overtime periods to determine who will hold onto the Elm City Bowl till next fall as the Thomas College men's soccer team fell 1-0 in double overtime to cross-town rival Colby College.
The Terriers defeated Colby in overtime last fall to take hold of the Elm City Bowl ending the Mules 17 straight game run. With the loss the Terriers fall to 7-5 (3-3 NAC) on the season, while the Mules improve to 6-4.
The Terriers controlled the ball very well in the first overtime and it looked as a header from Paul Rechichi off of a corner kick was going to give the Terriers the win, but his shot just missed the goal as it floated over the crossbar.
Colby's game winning goal came with just 1:51 remaining in the second overtime session when Andrew Meisel put the ball in after Thomas goalkeeper Winston Trott slipped to the ground while attempting to handle a high floating service.
Freshmen Blake Boswell, Khamisi Lightbourne, and Dakota Duplisse stood out for the Terriers offense. Duplisse led the Terriers with five shots while Boswell and Lightbourne supported with three shots a piece. Sophomores Gunnar Shelton and Rechichi provided solid defensive support to freshman goalkeeper Trott who made his first career start in place of Mikkail Crockwell who missed today's game after being called up to play for Bermuda's national team in a World Cup Qualifier match against Guyana.
Next up for the Terriers is the Owls from the University of Maine Presque Isle, kick off will take place on Sunday October 16th at Alumni Field.
