How it Happened:

  • Despite consistent chances from both teams, the first period ended 1-0 in favor of the Spartans.
  • Caleb Micklon then tied the game three minutes into the second period on an assist from Tyler Gay.
  • 17 Seconds later the Spartans caught the Terriers off the face-off, and scored to make it 2-1.
  • After multiple power play opportunities and a lot of back and forth, it was the Spartans that went up 3-1 and appeared to be in control.
  • However, Micklon didn't settle and exactly one minute later he ripped a shot past the opposing goaltender to make it 3-2. Colton Kozma and Gay assisted.
  • The Terriers began to role after the momentum switch, scoring again 44 seconds later.
  • Nick Fischetto carried the puck in the zone and got a shot on net, which led to a scramble in front of the Spartan goal.
  • Brandon Bearce eventually found Fischetto, who scored to tie things at 3-3.
  • Despite controlling the play throughout the third period Thomas could not get the go-ahead goal and overtime was needed.
  • Just a minute into overtime Gay found the back of the net thanks to assists from Kozma and Devon Fay, and the Terriers could finally celebrate.
  • Matt D'Ortona was spectacular in net for the Terriers, making 33 total saves.
