Men's Ice Hockey Dominates Dartmouth 7-2 in NECHA Quarterfinals

2/23/2026 9:12:00 AM

Hannover, NH - Men's Ice Hockey traveled to Thompson Arena to take on Dartmouth College Big Green in the first round of the North East Collegiate Hockey Association playoffs. The Terriers dominated, scoring six unanswered goals amd rallying from early deficits to run away with a decisive win.

How it Happened:
  • The Terriers came out of the locker room focused, but it was Dartmouth that struck first just 4:15 into the first after a long battle in front of Terrier goaltender Matt D'Ortona.
  • Three minutes later Dartmouth struck again on a similar goal, and the Big Green had some clear confidence.
  • Despite the deficit, the Terriers never panicked, and with 3:04 left in the first they cut into the lead on blistering snap shot from Quinn Hawley that sent the goaltenders water bottle into disrepair.
  • Hunter Coughlin and Ian McClathcy assisted on the first Terrier goal.
  • The teams went to the break with Dartmouth holding a 2-1 lead.
  • Heading into the second period and despite the Terriers feeling they were in control, once again it was Dartmouth that struck first beating D'Ortona after a defensive turnover.
  • Things seemed to change shortly after that as the Terriers picked up their intensity at both ends, finishing checks, getting pucks deep and peppering the Dartmouth goaltender with shots.
  • At 10:09 Nick Fischetto drove home a rebound and things got rolling from there.
  • 47 Seconds later Caleb Micklon blasted a one timer past the goaltender on a nice feed from Jack Perron to tie things 3-3.
  • Just four minutes after that Tyler Gay put the Terriers in front with the eventual game winner, driving home another rebound.
  • McClatchy assisted on that goal and the teams went to the locker room with Thomas up 4-3.
  • The third period was full of some back and forth but The Terriers continued to control the play.
  • With 7:33 Colin Hines broke through on the left side and roofed a shot past the Dartmouth goaltender, making it 5-3, with brothers Nick and Joe Fischetto assisting the goal.
  • Off from a timeout and a faceoff in the Thomas end, the Big Green pulled their goalie and it was Hawley once again that would put a dagger in any hopes of a comeback.
  • Hawley sent a loose puck from center ice into the Dartmouth net, making it 6-3.
  • Despite the lead the Terriers kept pressing as instructed, and with 2:02 Brandon Bearce was perfectly positions to slot home a rebound, scoring the game's final goal.
  • Head Men's Ice Hockey Coach Joey Waraskevich had this to say about the team's huge playoff win. "The boys worked so hard in practice the past week. We felt like we were the favorite coming into the game and despite falling behind we remained confident. We're thrilled to be advancing but we also expected it."

What's Next:
  • With the win, the Terriers have advanced to the NECHA Semifinals against UMass Amherst. The matchup is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 28th at 7:00 PM in Keene, NH at Keene ICE.
