10/5/2025 8:29:00 AM

New London, CT - After falling to the Coast Guard Academy each of the last two seasons, the Terriers rolled to a 11-0 win on Saturday, October 4th, 2025.

How it Happened:
  • The first few minutes were somewhat dictated by the home team, but three minutes in Filip Nyberg put the Terriers up 1-0 with a quick shot from the right slot.
  • Nyberg's power play goal was assisted by first year CJ Starr and Sophomore Hunter Coughlin.
  • Things stayed that way for eight minutes, but another power play soon after gave the Terriers another opportunity.
  • This time it was Quinn Hawley who scored, thanks to an assist from Tyler Gay to make it 2-0.
  • With four minutes left in the first period Devon Fay scored, assisted by Starr and Hawley.
  • Almost instantly after the last goal the Terriers struck again, with Ian McClatchy scoring an impressive goal with an assist from Caleb Micklon.
  • Heading into the second period, things remained even for the first eight minutes.
  • It was then when McClatchy scored once again on an assist from defensive partner Colton Kozma, making it 5-0.
  • Only 73 seconds later Gay scored, with assists from Kozma and McClatchy.
  • Nathan Myers closed the second period scoring with a great drive to the net thanks to a good insert from Gay to make it 7-0.
  • With only one period to go Kozma found the back of the net one minute in on an assist from Joe Fischetto.
  • 10 Minutes later it was J. Fischetto who scored his first after an assist from his brother Nick Fischetto to make it 9-0.
  • Soon after Gay drove home his second of the night on feed from Micklon.
  • It was Kozma one last time closing the scoring, assisted by Brandon Bearce to make it 11-0.
  • Terrier goaltender Matt D'Ortona was locked in from the start, and shut down numerous point blank chances.
  • His first career shutout was consistently challenged during the third period requiring him to remain sharp.
  • Head Men's Ice Hockey Coach Joey Waraskevich had this to say about the team's opening performance: "This group has worked incredibly hard in practice and to have them be rewarded for their efforts felt justified. We celebrated the win in the locker and are shifting our focus to tomorrow."

What's Next:
  • Men's Ice Hockey will be back in action when they travel to New York on Sunday, October 5th, to take on St. Thomas Aquinas. This will be the first ever meeting between the two schools.
