Softball Drops Against Strong Opponents in Day 3

Clermont, FL - Thomas College took on day three in Florida dropping to both of their opponents. First against Lebanon Valley College 8-0 in five innings, then Saint Mary's University (Minn.) 10-1 in five innings. 

Game 1 Lebanon Valley College 8-0 Loss

  • The first inning brought the Flying Dutchman 6 innings after four hits and an error.
  • Two quick innings went by for the Terriers before Lebanon Valley added their seventh run.
  • The eighth run was scored in the bottom of the fifth putting the run rule into effect.
  • Two Terriers had two hits in the game coming from Megan Oberholzer and Makayla Panich who both hit to left field.
  • Oberholzer pitched three innings tallying up 3 strikeouts, before being relieved by Brooklyn Federico who pitched the final two innings striking out two batters. 

Game 2 Thomas vs Saint Mary's University (Minn.) 10-1 Loss

  • Federico got her first collegiate start on the mound against the Cardinals ending with two strikeouts.
    • At the top of the first the game quickly went to 3-0 against the Terriers after two hits and an error.
  • Another quick two innings went by before the game went to 5-0 thanks to a double and single by the Cardinals.
  • The Cardinals kept up the momentum at the top of the fourth adding four runs.
  • Thomas finally strung together three hits from Oberholzer, Jennie Whitten, and Emily Rock earning their loan run for the game. 
  • The tenth run was added by Saint Mary's at the top of the fifth, bringing the game to a final score of 10-1.
  • First year E. Rock had a phenomenal game at third base making three plays that would have impacted the Cardinals offensive game immensely.

Softball plays Johnson & Wales University Tuesday, March 5th at 9:15 am followed by Wheaton College at 11:30 am.
