Softball Comes Out On Top After Two High Scoring Games vs Lesley

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Lexington, MA – The Terriers traveled down to Lesley College for a Conference Doubleheader against the Lynx. Softball ended up scoring their most runs in a game so far this season in both games, first with their 9-7 win in game one, then followed by their 13-9 win in game two.

Lesley: Overall (2-9), NAC (0-2)
 
Game 1:
  • Lesley started the game up, after a quick three up three down at the Terriers first at bat, the Lynx scored two runs off a double. One of the runners on base was on due to a walk.
  • It wasn't until the third inning that Thomas got their first run. First Year Emily Rock started off the inning by getting on base from a walk, Katie McIntyre followed her with the same outcome. Sophomore Abby Farone would single in the infield loading up the bases. Leah Knight would then be the one to put the ball in ball towards first base allowing E Rock to score.
  •  After keeping the Lynx to another scoreless inning, Thomas took full advantage and earned three more runs in the fourth inning.
  • Both Megan Oberholzer and Maddie Rock would reach base off a walk. After a SAC Bunt from Kayla Duhaime, they would advance to second and third base. E Rock reached first from an error by the shortstop, allowing Oberholzer to score. Farone would then score both Rock's with a single to center field.
  • Lesley was able to put pressure on Thomas by earning another run, bringing the score 4-3 Thomas to end the fourth.
  • Walks would again help load the bases for the Terriers, Knight would come into score from bases loaded beating out the throw at home. E. Rock was walked, bringing in run #6 as Oberholzer crossed the plate. Then McIntyre was able to put a ball to right center scoring both M Rock and Duhaime.
  • The Lynx didn't go quite adding two runs of their own in the fifth inning, off two hits.
  • Knight again able to start the inning singled up the middle, M Rock would score her after hitting a double to center field.
  • We would reach the final score of 9-7 after the Lynx had a seventh inning rally after an error allowed two runners on base, which were then scored after a single got through on the right side.
Inside the stats:
  • Knight ended with two hits, 1 RBI, 1 stolen base, and scored 2 of the Terriers 9 runs.
  • Farone would go 2-4, earning 2 RBI's.
  • M. Rock hit a double, walked twice, and would score 2 of the Terriers 9 runs.
  • Addy Boyce pitched the full 7 innings for the Terriers, striking out 6 batters.
 
Game 2:
  • Unlike Game 1 the Terriers started scoring immediately, leadoff batter Layla Pickering reached first after an error by the Lynx shortstop. Knight was then able to bunt for a single, advancing Pickering to second. A wild pitch moved them both up a base, Jennie Whitten then put the ball in play, hitting an RBI scoring Pickering. Oberholzer came up to the plate right behind her and hit a single up the middle of the field, scoring Knight.
  • Lesley scored a loan run for themselves in the first inning after a wild pitch sent a runner home, who walked earlier in the inning.
  • Duhaime started off the second inning strong, hitting her first home run of the season bringing the score to 3-1. After singles from McIntyre and Farone two back-to-back walked brought in Thomas's next run. They ended the inning scoring one more run from a SAC fly by Whitten.
  • In the third inning, Makayla Panich redeemed herself, as she hit a double to left center scoring Duhaime, who walked during her at bat.
  • In the bottom of the third the Lynx made their comeback scoring 6 runs, leading with a score of 7-6. This happened after four walks, two doubles, and a Thomas error.
  • The Terriers did not stay down as they immediately earned 3 runs in the next inning, taking back the lead. Three back-to-back singles to center from Oberholzer, M Rock, and Duhaime caused 2 of the three runs to score. McIntyre would be responsible for the final run as she put a ball in play causing an error, which scored M Rock.
  • The Lynx scored the next run in the fifth after two consecutive Thomas errors.
  • In the sixth inning McIntyre singled to center field but found herself standing on third due to a Lynx error. A hit to the infield by Panich scored McIntyre increasing the Terriers lead and bringing the score to 10-8.
  • The Terriers kept the Lynx scoreless in the sixth allowing for a bigger gap in runs. A walk from Pickering and singles from Knight and Federico would quickly load the bases. With two outs Duhaime would hit a single to center scoring Pickering along with Knight after an error by the center fielder. After an error by the Lynx catcher Federico would score, bringing the score to 13-8 with one more Lynx at bat.
  • At Lesley final at bat a ground out RBI would score their final run, making the final score 13-9.
 
Inside the stats:
  • Knight would go 2-2 with 3 walks at the plate and hit 1 RBI.
  • Duhaime had 3 hits, 1 home run, 3 RBI's.
  • Whitten ended with 2 RBI's. She was the starting pitcher, ending with 3 strikeouts, and only allowed 3 hits.
  • Federico went 2-3 at the plate. She was also the winning pitcher, coming in during the third inning. In her four plus innings pitched she gave up only three walks and allowed only three hits.
