Softball Splits Day Two Competition

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Kissimmee, FL – Thomas College Softball split their second day in Florida, first starting off with a 7-2 win against Carlow University before wrapping up their day falling to Penn State Berks 10-3.
 
Game 1 Thomas College vs Carlow University 7-2 Win
  • Sophomore Megan Oberholzer got her first win of the '24 season striking out four Celtics and only allowing five hits in the game.
  • The Terriers didn't take long to get runs on the board as leadoff hitting Layla Pickering and Brooklyn Federico both singled to center right before Oberholzer hit a long ball to the right field fence scoring both.
  • First Year Emily Rock then hit a single to center field scoring her sister Maddie Rock, making the score 3-0 before the Celtics got their first at bat.
  • A single run was scored by Carlow after a single to left center scored their number two batter.
  • Two quick innings went by for the Terriers before Carlow would make it a very close 3-2 game.
  • In the fifth inning, the Terriers would earn two more runs thanks to Federico and Oberholzer getting on base from walks then Kayla Duhaime hit a single to center scoring Federico. Oberholzer scored after a fielder's choice hit from E. Rock.
  • The final two Thomas runs were scored at the top of the seventh from a single by Oberholzer who received a pinch runner, Leah Knight. Knight came around after a SAC bunt from Duhaime and double from E. Rock.
  • E. Rock scored from a line drive by Makayla Panich, final score 7-2 Thomas.
 
Game 2 Thomas College vs Penn State Berks 10-3 Loss
  • First Year Jennie Whitten got her first collegiate start on the mound before being relieved by Oberholzer. 
  • The Nittany Lions got a quick start to the game, scoring four runs in the top of the first.
  • Four more runs were scored by Berks in the third after three singles pushed runners in.
  • The Terriers were able to put their three runs together in the bottom of the third after Duhaime started the inning off strong with a single to right field. First Year Layla Pickering then got on base after a walk before Federico got her own single to right field.
  • After E. Rock got on base from fielder's choice hit the pitcher number four batter Oberholzer hit a three run RBI double to left field.
  • The final two Berks runs were scored in the fifth inning.
  • The game ended at the top of the seventh inning due to lightning.
