Terriers Ease Past Huskies in Home Opener 7-2

WATERVILLE, Maine –– The Terriers took on the University of Southern Maine Huskies on March 26th. The day concluded with an overall score of 7-2 in favor of Thomas College. The Terriers improve to 2-0 on the season while the Huskies fall to 0-3.
 
The Records:
Thomas College 2-0
University of Southern Maine 0-3
 
Doubles:
At #1 doubles Terriers Gabe McPhail and Liam Gould took on Cole Ouelette and Zac Howe. The match ended with a score of 8-4 in favor of Thomas College.
At #2 doubles Terriers Calvin Cutler and Seb Soto took on Zach Desmarais and Azam Jiwa. The match would conclude in an 8-4 score in favor of the Terrier duo.
At #3 doubles Terriers Nick Magiera and Caleb Daigneault took on Landon Weaver and Zach Lull. This one would go in favor of the Huskies as the Terriers duo fell just short 8-5.
 
Singles:
At #1 singles McPhail would take on Ouelette. McPhail would prevail in closely fought sets, winning his match 6-4, 6-3.
At #2 singles Soto took on Desmarais. Soto would win his first set very convincingly 6-1 but find some resistance as Desmarais took him the distance in the second set with Soto ultimately coming out on top 5-7.
At #3 singles Gould would take on Howe. Gould would go ahead and play solid tennis, winning his match 6-3, 6-4.
At #4 singles Cutler would take on Jiwa. Cutler would go down quickly in his first set 6-0, Cutler didn't go down without a fight as he would come back in the final two sets winning 6-1, 6-1.
At #5 singles Kegan Rodrigue would take on Huskies' very own Ethan Rudnicki. Rodrigue would take Rudnicki the distance in the first set losing in the tiebreaker 6-7. Rodrigue would fight back, winning the next two sets and the match with set scores 6-4, 6-3.
At #6 singles Magiera took on Weaver. Magiera would lose the first set 1-6 but would come back to win the second set 6-4. The final set was decided by a 10-point tiebreaker with Weaver winning the tiebreaker set 10-7.

What's Next:
Terrier Men's Tennis will hit the road to take the Bridgewater State University on Tuesday, April 2nd at 3:30 pm EST at the Dr. Henry Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts in Bridgewater, Massachusetts.
