Thomas College Softball Has Slow Start to 2024 Season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Winter Haven, FL – Thomas College Softball played their first two games of the 2024 season in Winter Haven, Florida falling to Dominican University 4-0 and Benedictine University 7-1. Four different first years got their first collegiate start in todays games.
 
Game 1 Thomas vs Dominican University 4-0 Loss
  • Sophomore Megan Oberholzer pitched the full seven for the Terriers striking out three batters.
  • Three of the Starts four runs came at the top of the first inning after an error and small ball play.
  • Oberholzer was the first Terrier to get a hit which occurred at the bottom of the second inning with a line drive to center field.
  • The fourth run of the game for the Stars was scored in the seventh inning after an RBI single.
  • First year Jennie Whitten got her first collegiate hit in the final inning of a game, hitting a solid line drive down the left field line.
 
Game 2 Thomas vs Benedictine University 7-1 Loss
  • First Year Addy Boyce got her first start on the collegiate mound in game two for the Terriers. She ended the game with two strikeouts.
  • The Eagles didn't take long to get their first run on the board after an RBI double.
  • At the top of the third Layla Pickering got her first hit in her college career, ultimately advancing to third was unable to score.
  • Six runs were scored against the Terriers in the third inning taking the game to 7-0.
  • In the fifth inning Teresa McLinden started off the inning by hitting a ball to center field. She was able to advance to second thanks to a sac bunt from Kayla Duhaime.
  • Sophomore Abby Farone hit a single to left field moving McLinden to third before scoring the unearned run off an error from the Eagles shortstop.
  • Wrapping up the day, both Whitten and Pickering hit a single before the game ended.
