Sunday Doubleheader Wins Gives Baseball a Weekend Sweep over Farmington

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Waterville, ME – Baseball takes home two wins at home on Sunday, April 9th against the University of Maine Farmington ending the weekend with a 4-0 sweep over the Beavers. The Terriers walked away from game one with a 7-6 win, followed by a 10-7 win in game two.
 
The Records:
Thomas College: Overall (9-11), NAC (4-0)
University of Maine Farmington: Overall (3-17), NAC (0-4)
 
Game 1
 
How it Happened:
  • The Terriers grabbed a quick 6-0 lead in the first inning off three hits, including a three-run homerun from Jarrad Willette, and two Farmington errors
  • During the second inning Thomas added their last run of the game when Elijah Morton who hit a double was brought in by Cam Haynes
  • The Beavers put their first two runs on the board in the third inning off a double to center field and RBI hit to second base
  • Farmington added another two runs during the fourth inning thanks to four hits, including a double
  • The final two runs were added in the sixth inning by the Beavers, leaving two runners on base, final score 7-6 Thomas
 
The Pitchers:
Zach Nickerson started on the mound for Thomas and recorded the win. Nickerson pitched just over three innings and recorded three strikeouts before Jacob Schubert came in to relieve in the fourth and pitching the fifth inning. Tyler Cantey started on the mound during the sixth, but was relieved by Daniel May for the last two batters of the inning. Andrew Pruell ended the game pitching the full seventh inning striking out two batters.
 
Game 2
 
How it Happened:
  • Game two was a bit of a different story for the Terriers as they spent their first time all weekend trailing the Beavers, 4-0 UMF
  • Slowly chipping away in the second inning was Matt Seymour who hit a triple his first at bat of the game, followed by the Terriers taking advantage of two Farmington errors, 4-2 UMF
  • Thomas took back the lead in the third inning with three singles, two to right field, and a Beaver error, 5-4 Thomas
  • To further their lead the Terriers added some much-needed insurance runs during the fifth inning as Austin Stebbins scored off a pass ball, Nick Hutson hitting a double bringing in Tony Meza, and Aaron Young hitting a strong hit up the middle to score Haynes and Hutson, 10-4 Thomas
  • The Beavers tried to stay in the game with a string of hits in the seventh inning, but could only reach seven runs, ending the game with a final score of 10-7 Thomas
 
The Pitchers:
Meza was accredited with today's win on the mound pitching the first four innings and ending with six strikeouts. Pruell came in during the start of the fifth inning pitching until the seventh ending game two with two strikeouts. Albert Acosta saw four at bats in the seventh inning before Wyatt Thompson relieved him for the final batter.
 
What is Next:
The Terriers will travel to Central Maine Community College on Wednesday, April 12th to play a single game against the Mustangs with a 6pm first pitch.
