Softball Splits Tuesday Night Games Against CMCC Mustangs

Auburn, ME – The Terriers traveled down to Central Maine Community College on Tuesday, April 11th to play a doubleheader games at 5 and 7pm. Thomas took the win in game one thanks to a strong second inning, winning 20-0. In game two the bats were slow to come alive leading the Mustangs to a 9-6 win.
 
The Records:
Thomas College: Overall (11-9), NAC (1-0)
Central Maine Community College: Overall (17-5)
 
Game 1

How it Happened:
  • A quick three up three down inning occurred in the first from both teams before the Terriers went on to have a 14 run second inning
  • Many Terriers took on extra bases in the second inning starting with a double from Kayla Duhaime, followed by doubles from Riley Giblin, Makayla Panich, and Kelsey Currier along with a triple from Katy McIntyre
  • In the third Thomas was able to add three more runs off one hit, two errors and four back-to-back walks
  • A sacrifice fly from Maddie Swett was able to bring in the Terriers 18th run, Giblin, who was hit by a pitch during her at bat
  • In the fifth and final inning Maddie Rock hits a hard ball to left field resulting in a triple and run scored followed by the Rock then scoring herself of a wild pitch, final score 20-0 Thomas
 
The Pitchers:
Currier pitched the full five innings resulting in nine strikeouts, three innings only facing three batters, and allowing only two hits.
 
Game 2
 
How it Happened:
  • The pace of game two shifted in the Mustangs favor starting off the first inning with a 3-0 lead over Thomas
  • The Terriers were able to get their first run on the board in the fourth inning after Giblin, who walked, scored on a RBI hit from Panich
  • The Mustangs were able to respond to the Terriers Run in the bottom of the fourth off an RBI hit to second base
  • At the top of the fifth Cheyenne Simpson hit a triple through to right center followed by a hit from Currier to left field scoring Simpson, 4-2 CMCC
  • To keep their lead the Mustangs continued to add runs in the fifth inning as three more was added off two hits and two errors
  • Thomas did add their most runs in the game during the sixth inning when continuous hits started to occur scoring four runners with doubles from McIntyre and Simpson, giving us the closes the score of the game, 6-7 CMCC
  • After two errors and two hits the Mustangs were able to get two more runners to cross the plate during the sixth, final score 9-7 CMCC
 
The Pitchers:
Oberholzer took the loss for the Terriers on the mound, pitching the full six innings and ending with eleven strikeouts.
 
What is Next:
The Terriers will host their next game against the University of Maine Farmington on Wednesday, April 19th at 4pm.
