Box Score 2 Winter Haven, FL – Softball played in back to back games against Gordon College and Geneva College. The Terriers won the first game in a comeback win the seventh inning 5-4, then ended the second game against Geneva with a big win of 10-8.
The Records:
Thomas College: Overall (2-6)
Gordon College: Overall (5-5)
Geneva College: Overall (2-4)
Game 1:
How it Happened:
- The first three innings started off slow for both the Scots and Terriers
- Gordon was the first to put a run on the board due to an error in the top of the fourth
- Thomas quickly tied up the game at the bottom of the fourth with Maddie Rock getting around the bases after her double
- One more point was added by Gordon in the fifth to make it a 2-1 game
- The Scots added two more runs at the top of the sixth
- Getting one more run back in the bottom of the sixth was the Terriers when Megan Oberholzer brought in Riley Giblin after she got on earlier in the inning off a double
- Thomas was able to come back and win the game in the seventh when Cheyenne Simpson scored by being walked in, then Leah Knight and Rock scored off Oberholzer's second hit of the game, walk off final score 5-4
Pitchers:
Kelsey Currier got the win in the circle ending the game with seven total strikeouts. Currier also only recorded one walk in her 111 pitches.
Game 2:
How it Happened:
- The Terriers got up on the board immediately adding three runs from Simpson, Currier, and Rock
- Geneva got was able to get one back at bottom of the first making it a 3-1 game
- At the bottom of the third Geneva tied the game at three off four hits
- Thomas was able to get their lead back in the fourth as Makayla Panich and Abby Farone scored as Simpson put a ball in play causing an error by Geneva
- Oberholzer was then able to bring in both Simpson and Currier off a line drive to right field, 7-3 Thomas
- The Terriers got to their tenth run in the fifth inning as Simpson hit in Taylor Wilkie, who entered the game as a runner for Fonseca, and Avery Herrick
- Simpson then scored off a Geneva Error to make the game 10-3
- Geneva did not let up as they added a run in the fifth and two in the sixth, 10-6 Thomas
- The bottom of the seventh was a nail bitter as with Geneva getting bases loaded with two outs
- Two runs scored off a hit and walked batter, but the Terriers were able to get the final out winning 10-8
The Pitchers:
Herrick got the start and win for the Terriers ending the game with eight strikeouts and two walked batters. Oberholzer came in to relieve Herrick in the seventh walking two batters and recording a strikeout.
What is Next:
Thomas Softball will play their last day of The Spring Games on Friday, March 10
th against Rivier University at 2pm and University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg with a 4:30pm start time.
