Softball Falls to a Strong MIT in Doubleheader Games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Cambridge, ME – The Terriers traveled to Massachusetts Institute of Technology for a doubleheader game day. Thomas fell early in both games ending both in five innings, game one ended with a score of 19-0 and 12 to 1 in game two in favor of the Engineers.

Game 1
 
How it Happened:
  • The Terriers had a rough time finding their footing in their first game against the Engineers
  • MIT immediately got runs on the board in the first inning off four hits of Thomas's First Year pitcher Megan Oberholzer, making it a quick 3-0 score
  • The Engineers picked up more runs in the third inning as six hits drove in five runs before the Terriers could find three outs, bringing the game to 8-0
  • The Terriers got were able to get baserunners on in the third and fourth inning from two walks, but were could not get a solid hit off MIT's pitcher, Caroline Langmeyer
  • The Fourth inning was a long one as the Engineers almost batter around twice, stating ten hits and adding eleven runs on Jordan Devin after she came in at the beginning of the inning to replace Oberholzer, 19-0
 
Pitchers:
Oberholzer started in the circle for the Terriers and took the loss. She had eleven hits and eight of the Engineers runs scored off her. Devine came in to finishing the game and pitch the fourth inning.
 
 
Game 2
 
How it Happened:
  • In game two the Terriers again started off with quick at bats, not getting their first hit of the day from First Year Sadie Dorr until the third inning after the Engineers were up 5-0
  • MIT scored four more runs in the third inning off Graduate Student Kelsey Currier from three hits
  • Thomas had their second hit of the day and game from Oberholzer who singled up the middle with only one out but was unsuccessful moving the runner into scoring position
  • MIT's last three runs were added in the fourth inning making it a 12-0, but the Terriers were able to get their loan run in the top of the fifth
  • Katy McIntyre was the first to get of base off a hit to left field, Dorr had then moved her to scoring position at second base right before Cheyenne Simpson would single to center field scoring McIntyre, 12-1
 
Pitchers:
Currier pitched four innings for the Terriers and took the loss in the circle. She ended with five strikeouts against the Engineers, the second highest MIT has had against them so far this season. Currier had given up twelve hits to the Engineers.
 
What is Next:
Softball travels to Brandeis University to play a noon time game on Sunday, March 19th in Waltham, Massachusetts.
