Softball Finishes Last Day in Florida with Two Wins

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Auburndale, FL – Softball competed in their final day of The Spring Games on Friday, March 10th against Rivier University and University of Pittsburg at Greensburg. The Terriers won their first game 7-6, then game two 6-0.
 
The Records:
Thomas College: Overall (4-6)
Rivier University: (0-10)
University of Pittsburg at Greensburg: Overall (3-6)
 
Game 1:
 
How it Happened:
  • The Terriers immediately got on the board as Cheyenne Simpson scored from a sac bunt from Kelsey Currier and then a error by the Raiders
  • Rivier was the next to gain a run at the top of third making it the first time the game was tied
  • Thomas easily added two more runs thanks to Riley Giblin's line drive to center field bringing in both Currier and Maddie Rock
  • The Raiders tied up the ball game again in the fourth 3-3 with a two run homerun
  • Thomas did not stop gaining two more runs in the bottom of the fourth as Makayla Panich and Leah Knight scored, 5-3
  • Rivier kept it close by making it a 5-4 ball game
  • Giblin came around the bases to score after being hit by a pitch and Terriers putting the ball in play to move her around, 6-4
  • A sacrifice hit scored a runner for Rivier as they trailed by one again, 6-5
  • Megan Oberholzer was about to score Simpson as she was able to steal both second and third, putting her in scoring position for the sacrifice fly, 7-5
  • The Raiders added a final run in the seventh inning, making the final score 7-6 Thomas
 
The Pitchers:
Currier got the win in the circle today recording three strikeouts and three walks off 123 pitches.
 
Game 2:
 
How it Happened:
  • After good pitching from both the Terriers and Bobcats the first Terrier run did not come until the fourth inning
  • Oberholzer scored off an error ground ball that was hit by Katy MacIntyre
  • The next two runs for Thomas were Knight and Rock and another error made by the Bobcats
  • The last three runs were scored in the seventh inning for Thomas by Knight, Simpson, and Rock off a sacrifice bunt from Currier, sacrifice fly from Oberholzer, and double from Giblin, final score 6-0
 
The Pitchers:
Oberholzer picked up the win for the Terriers along with her first collegiate shutout. She ended with six strikeouts and two walked batters with the Bobcats only getting four hits off her.
 
What is Next:

Softball will play their next game against Massachusetts Institute of Technology on March 18th as a doubleheader with game times at 12 pm & 2 pm.
