Baseball to play host SUNY Cobleskill in first game of NAC Championship on Sunday

5/4/2022 10:54:00 AM

WATERVILLE, Maine - Regular-season baseball games are complete and tournament teams are preparing to travel to Cobleskill, New York.

The top two teams from the East and West Divisions qualified for the 2022 NAC baseball championship - a double-elimination tournament in which all games are 9-innings. The host institution rotates annually with the #1 seed in the West, SUNY Cobleskill, hosting in 2022.

Seeding was initially done based on NAC divisional results only. Husson (13-1, 21-15) lost only one game to conference opponents and earned the top seed in the East. Thomas College (8-8, 15-23) snagged the #2 spot after posting a .500 divisional record.

In the West, SUNY Cobleskill claimed the top seed with an 11-4 divisional record (20-18 overall), and SUNY Canton (7-8, 10-29) took the second seed.

Because NAC teams play divisional schedules in the regular season, teams are re-seeded #1 - #4 for the tournament by adding strength-of-schedule and overall DIII win percentage. Husson took the top spot, followed by Cobleskill, Thomas, and Canton.

CHAMPIONSHIP RESEED

1. Husson
2. Cobleskill
3. Thomas
4. Canton

The first three tournament games are Sunday, May 8. #1 Husson will take on #4 SUNY Canton in the first game at 10:00 AM. #2 Cobleskill then plays #3 Thomas at 1:00 PM. Losing teams compete to stay alive in the 4:00 PM game, after which the first eliminated team heads home.

Double-elimination continues with games at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM Monday and concludes with the championship game(s) on Tuesday at 11:00 AM.

The NAC champions earn a spot in the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship Tournament later this month.
