BENNINGTON, Vermont – The Thomas College men's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory over the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Saturday afternoon in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) matchup.
The Terriers improve to 2-0 in the league and are 7-3 overall. The Trailblazers are still in search of their first win of the season as they drop to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
Thomas took control early by sweeping the doubles matches inside the Bennington Tennis Center. Ryan Chasse (Fort Kent, Maine) and teammate Zachary Disch (Waterville, Maine) earned a hard fought point in the top doubles matchup, besting Aaron Goldsmith and Jared Freeman 8-4. Ross Munn (Brunswick, Maine) and Jared Waterhouse (Dayton, Maine) cruised past Mohamed Mahrous and Charles Najimy, 8-1, in the second doubles slot. Thomas' Kaleb Payson (Lamoine, Maine) and Christo Naranja (Fort Kent, Maine) defeated Nick Castle and Matt Bluteau, 8-1, to complete the doubles sweep.
In singles play, the Terriers never lost a set as Chasse bested Goldsmith in the match of the day. Chasse earned the point 6-4, 7-5 in a back and forth affair. Munn and Disch easily earned their second point of the afternoon each winning 6-0, 6-0. Waterhouse, Payson, and Naranja also earned their second points of the day, all in convincing fashion.
Thomas will take on Suffolk tomorrow for a tough non-conference matchup on the road.
