CLERMONT, Florida – The Thomas College softball team was swept in a doubleheader by Oberlin College on Saturday morning at Legends Way Park, 7-6 and 8-0.

Oberlin 7, Thomas 6

The Yeowomen came out strong offensively in the opening frame as they got to Terrier pitcher Sydney LeBourveau (Jericho, Vt. / Mount Mansfield Union) early with four runs on three hits.

In the bottom half of the inning, LeBourveau looked to help her cause as she homered down the right field line, scoring Katie Taylor (Lebanon, Maine / Noble) who led off the inning with a single.

Madison Bentz (Algonquin, Ill. / Ottawa Township) opened the third inning with a triple and later scored on an RBI single by Courtney Veilleux (Sidney, Maine / Messalonskee) to bring the Terriers within a run.  Thomas eventually tied the game in the bottom of the fourth as Kayla Bess (Madison, Maine / Madison) scored on a passed ball.

Oberlin began to pull away in the fifth and sixth as they tacked on three runs for a 7-4 lead.  Thomas looked to rally in the seventh as two errors scored LeBourveau and Bentz.  The comeback fell short with a runner left on base as the Terriers flied out to end the game at 7-6.

Bess and Bentz both finished 2-for-3 on the day while Taylor and LeBourveau finished at 2-for-4.

Emma Downing went a perfect 3-for-3 for the Yeowomen while Dana Rae Goldstein went 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Oberlin 8, Thomas 0 – 5 innings

Oberlin once again came out swinging in the first two innings putting up six runs on six hits against Bess who started on the mound for the Terriers.  Haley Littlefield (Mount Desert Island, Maine / MDI) came in relief throwing three innings, allowing nine hits and two runs.

Leandre Glendenning silenced the Terriers' bats holding them no runs on three hits and struck out five in five innings of work.  Taylor, LeBourveau, and Lexi Colpack (Franklin, N.H. / Franklin) each recorded a hit for Thomas.

The Terriers will complete their spring trip on Sunday, March 26 as they face Middlebury and SUNY Potsdam.
