Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Florida – The Thomas College softball team fell to nationally ranked Wisconsin-Eau Claire 12-1 and let a late lead slip away to St. Lawrence, 12-7, on Wednesday afternoon.
#8 Wisconsin-Eau Claire 12, Thomas 1 – 5 innings
The Blugolds' pitching staff combined for a five-inning no-hitter as the nationally ranked team rolled to a 12-1 rout. Starting pitcher Cheyenne Johnson tossed 4.1 innings, allowing one unearned run and striking out six in the winning effort.
Wisconsin-Eau Claire scored four runs in the first, two in the second, and six in the third. Rachel Heffel finished 2-for-4 with three runs while Tayler Mort went 2-for-2 with two RBI.
The Terriers defense made two errors, allowed ten hits and gave up ten walks. Freshman Kayla Bess (Madison, Maine / Madison) allowed six runs (five earned) on two hits and six walks. Haley Littlefield (Mount Desert Island, Maine / MDI) threw two innings allowing seven hits and six runs. Senior Chelsea Hale (Moreno Valley, Calif. / Vista Del Lago) silenced the Blugolds' bats in the fourth and held them scoreless.
St. Lawrence 12, Thomas 7
The Saints went to work in the top half of the first inning plating three runs for an early lead. Emma Reakes led the way belting a two-RBI homerun over the left field fence off Terrier pitcher Sydney LeBourveau (Jerhico, Vt. / Mount Mansfield Union).
The Terriers answered back in the bottom half of the first as LeBourveau helped her cause by hitting a two-RBI double to score Bess and Katie Taylor (Lebanon, Maine / Noble). Cassie Contigiani (Belmont, N.H. / Belmont) singled on a check swing to score LeBourveau, tying the game up at 3-3.
After the Saints took a one-run lead in the second, the Terriers added a pair of runs to take a 5-4 lead. Taylor led off the inning with a walk followed by a triple from Korrie Laren (Blackstone, Mass. / Blackstone-Millville). LeBourveau smashed another double to left center to score Laren.
With two outs in the third, Madison Bentz (Algonquin, Ill. / Ottawa Township) singled up the middle to get a runner on. Taylor sent a double to right center to score Bentz for a 6-4 advantage.
In the final innings, the Saints offense was too strong, putting up eight runs. The Terriers added one more in the seventh to finish the scoring at 12-7.
Taylor and Laren each finished the game 3-for-4 with three RBI's combined. LeBourveau hit 2-for-4 with a run and three RBI.
The Terriers will have a day off and return to action on Friday, March 24 as they face Lawrence and Worcester St.
