WATERVILLE, Maine --- The Thomas College men's tennis team opened its home schedule Wednesday with a 6-3 loss to the University of Southern Maine at Alfond Athletic Center.
The Terriers (0-6), who won matches at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles by forfeit, also picked up a point at No. 5 singles as freshman Nathan Philbrook (Rockland, Maine / Oceanside) topped Sebastien Taylor, 4-6, 6-1, 6-0.
The Huskies (1-0) led 2-1 after doubles as Tyler Adams and Kyle Curley defeated senior Tyler Small (Surry, Maine / Ellsworth) and sophomore Zachary Disch (Waterville, Maine / Waterville), 8-2, at the number one spot and Eric Berry-Sandelin and Samuel Holland paired to top Philbrook and fellow freshman Ross Munn (Brunswick, Maine / Brunswick), 8-3, at second doubles.
Seniors Caleb Mora (Surry, Maine / Ellsworth) and Joseph Greco (Greene, Maine / St. Dominic Academy) received the forfeit victory at No. 3 doubles.
Southern Maine' Adams, Curley, Berry-Sandelin and Holland posted straight-set wins at the top four singles positions to close out the match.
Thomas returns to the courts on Saturday morning when it opens North Atlantic Conference play with a 10 a.m. match against Colby-Sawyer at Alfond Athletic Center.
