HILTON HEAD, S.C. --- Senior Tyler Small (Surry, Maine / Ellsworth) factored into a pair of victories as the Thomas College men's tennis team fell to Concordia University Wisconsin, 7-2, on Wednesday at Chaplin Tennis Center.
Small paired with sophomore Zachary Disch (Waterville, Maine / Waterville) for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles over Benjamin Nommensen and Trevor Budewitz, then edged Nommensen 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (6) at No. 1 singles.
At No. 2 doubles, freshman Ross Munn (Brunswick, Maine / Brunswick) and senior Caleb Mora (Surry, Maine / Ellsworth) were stopped 8-2 by Christian Docter and Brad Guendel, while senior Sam Cook (Plymouth, Mass. / Plymouth South) and sophomore Thomas Heideman (Allentown, N.J. / Allentown) dropped an 8-1 decision to Ceejay Schaffner and Jonah Fowle at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Disch forced Docter into a first-set tiebreaker at the No. 2 position but eventually came out on the short end of a 7-6 (6), 6-4 decision.
Mora moved up to No. 3 singles Wednesday after winning his first two matches of the season at the No. 4 position. After forcing match tiebreakers each of the past two days, Mora fell to Guendel in straight sets.
Munn split the first two sets of his No. 4 singles match with Budewitz, taking the second set before falling 10-3 in a match tiebreaker.
Cook and Heideman were shut out 6-0, 6-0 by Schaffner and Robert Spiering at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
The Terriers (0-3) return to regional play Thursday afternoon with a 4:30 p.m. matchup with FDU-Florham at Chaplin Tennis Center.
