HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The Thomas men's tennis team earned a split in the first two days of their spring trip to the Spring TennisFest in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
The Terriers were defeated 9-0 on Monday afternoon by Endicott College, but rebounded to knock off Salem State 6-3 on Tuesday morning.
Day One Recap vs Endicott College
Thomas was unable to capture a victory in any match against the Gulls, as they took all six singles matches and all three doubles matches on Monday afternoon.
In number one singles, Eric Morin fell to Chris Kirkpatrick 6-1, 6-2. Tyler Small was defeated by Eric Pierce in two's 6-4, 6-2, while Jonte Roussel dropped his third singles match to Michael Dolph 6-0, 6-1.
Zachary Disch, Caleb Mora and Caleb Cough also dropped their respective singles matches.
In doubles, Morin/Small went down to Kirkpatrick/Dolph 8-3 in number one doubles, Disch/Roussel were defeated 8-2 by McAndrews/Lauretano in number two doubles, and Mora/Cough fell against Pierce/Warshavsky 8-2 in number three doubles.
Day Two Recap vs Salem State
The Terriers claimed five of the six singles matches en route to a 6-3 victory over Salem State on Tuesday morning.
Eric Morin claimed a win in his number one singles match, defeating Matt Mogren 7-5, 6-4. Tyler Small cruised to a win in number two singles, 6-0, 6-0 over Conner Erickson.
Jonte Roussel fell in a hard fought third singles match against David Dluznieski 1-6, 6-1, 4-10. Zachary Disch, Caleb Mora and Caleb Cough all secured wins in their respective singles matches to give Thomas a 5-1 advantage.
In the doubles matches, the Vikings claimed two of three over the Terriers. Number one doubles team Morin/Small defeated Erickson/Mogren 8-4, while number two team Disch/Roussel fell to Didonato/Dluznieski 8-4 and third doubles team Greco/Trujillo dropped to Hodgkins/Larn 8-4 as well.
Thomas has three more days of matches in the Spring TennisFest, taking on Greenville College on Wednesday morning at 8:30 AM, Asbury University on Thursday afternoon at 4:00 PM, before closing out with the Saint Louis College of Pharmacy on Friday morning at 8:00 AM.
