Box Score ORONO, ME – Thomas (4-12) was unable to secure a victory against NCAA DI opponent University of Maine (10-19), falling to the Black Bears 10-2 in a non-conference baseball matchup on Tuesday evening at Mahaney Diamond.
The Black Bears tacked on three runs in the second with a triple by Bernardo, then singles by Shane Bussey and Colin Gay brought the score to 3-0. Thomas responded however in the fourth as the bases were loaded for Anree Benitez who drew a walk to score Ross Sanders from third.
Maine was able to add another three runs in the fifth, then a run in the sixth and seventh, followed by two runs in the eighth to cross home ten on the night. The Terriers other run came in the sixth on another base on balls with the bases loaded, as Nik Beeson took the free ticket to first that plated home Garrett Emery.
Dylan McNally suffered the loss on the bump, tossing four innings, yielding four earned runs, while striking out four. Tyler Keller, Mike Confer, and Rob Casarez held the Black Bears to three runs in relief.
Emery led the Red and Black at the plate going 3-4, while Ethan Henderson was the only other Terriers with a mult-hit game going 2-4.
Thomas will return to North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play tomorrow as they travel to Bangor with a doubleheader against Husson. First pitch scheduled for 5:00 PM.
