Terriers Split with Hornets in Conference Doubleheader

WATERVILLE, ME - Thomas College split a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader against Lyndon State Hornets. The Terriers took game one by the score of 6-5 in ten innings, but lost the night cap 10-2.

GAME ONE

Thomas opened up the scoring in the top of the first off an error by the Hornets, allowing Alyssa Eugley to score. Korrie Laren doubled to bring in another during the top of the third, driving in Brianne Gonzalez. Lyndon knotted the score at two in the bottom of the sixth on a single from Jillian Emery.

Thomas scored two runs in the top of the seventh, the first coming off of a fielders choice from Laren, allowing Lauren Hachey to come across. Courtney Veilleux scored on a wild pitch to give Thomas a 4-2 lead. Lyndon State would not go away quietly, scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning forcing extra innings.

The teams would each score a run in their respective halves of the ninth inning until finally in the top of the 10th inning Faith Robinson would sacrifice fly out to bring in Kelsey Crowe. Thomas' defense would hold strong in the bottom of the inning to seal a victory.

Kelsey Crowe got the win for Thomas, pitching ten innings, allowing five runs on seven hits, walked four and struck out six. Lyndon States' Katie Davis took the loss, throwing ten innings, allowing six runs on eight hits, walking two and striking out four.

GAME TWO

The Hornets came out swinging with a triple to right field by Shelby Sheridan. Lyndon two runs in the inning off of singles by Jillian Emery and Taylor Young.

LSC scored another run on an error at second base, extending their lead to 3-0 over the Terriers at the end of the second inning. The Hornets added another run to make it 4-0 after three. Taylor Bergeron put the Terriers on the board with an RBI Ground Rule Double to right field, scoring Korrie Laren.

The Hornets rallied in the bottom of the fourth inning, starting with an RBI triple by Jena Finnegan, scoring Sheridan. Finnegan scored off of a double by Emery, who was sent in shortly after by Taylor Young.  Katie Davis reached first on an error, allowing Young to score. Mindy Carl crossed the plate from third on a fielder's choice RBI by Alise Vandal.

The Terriers put another run on the board in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Brianne Gonzalez, scoring Alyssa Eugley. LSC closed out the game with an RBI single by Emery, plating Sheridan.

Katie Davis got the win, throwing five innings, allowing two runs on five hits, striking out three and walking four. Faith Robinson took the loss for the Terriers, throwing 3.1 innings, allowing eight runs on ten hits, walking two and two strikeouts.

The Terriers will return to action at home on Monday April 21, as they take on the University of Maine – Presque Isle in a non-conference double header. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
