Box Score WATERVILLE, ME – Thomas College fell to crosstown rival Colby College in extra innings 6-5 in a non-conference softball tilt on Monday evening.
Meaghan Lewia singled in Carolyn Bennett with the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning to secure the walk off victory for Colby.
Alyssa Eugley had two hits, walked once, and drove in two runs for Thomas. Korrie Laren had one hit, a run, and drove in two runs. Lauren Hachey also had a hit and one run scored.
Carylanne Wolfington went 3-for-4, scored twice, and drove in one run for Colby (5-12 overall). Emily Schatz had three hits and scored twice, while Lewia finished with three hits and one RBI. Grace Farnkoff added two hits and one RBI.
Both teams scored one run in the ninth inning to send it to 10 innings. Farnkoff had an RBI groundout in the ninth to score Schatz with Colby's run. Thomas answered when Eugley had an RBI groundout to plate Laren.
Colby opened the scoring with two runs in the second inning. Tori Sansone led off with a double and Wolfington followed with a single and both runners moved up an extra base on a Thomas throwing error for a 1-0 lead. Wolfington eventually scored on an RBI groundout by Kelsey Park.
The Mules scored on a third RBI groundout in the top of the sixth inning. Wolfington scored on the out by Katie McLaughlin.
Colby took a 4-0 lead in the top of the seventh on what turned out to be a big run. Wolfington's RBI single brought in Schatz with two outs.
The Terriers scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings. Laren had a two-run single to bring in Taylor Jordan and Brianne Gonzalez. Thomas also had an RBI walk from Mary Ortiz and got the tying run when Eugley doubled to score Gabrielle Martell.
Thomas will be back in action on Wednesday as they host Maine Maritime Academy for their home opener at 3:00 PM.
