Thomas Drops Pair to Spartans

BANGOR, ME – Thomas College (5-17, 4-6 NAC) was unable to secure a victory against Castleton State College (15-7, 12-3 NAC) on Sunday afternoon in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) baseball doubleheader played at Husson University. The Spartans won the first game 5-0, then took the nightcap 12-2.

 

 

GAME ONE

Castleton plated home their first run of the game in the second inning, as Macyn Clifford drove in Matthew McNamee on an RBI single. The Spartans added another two runs in the third to pull away with an early 3-0 advantage. Castleton added another two runs in the seventh with a Joe Borowski double that scored Allen White and Tyler Lord.

 

 

Thomas was unable to get any offense going, being held to just two hits against Conner Johnson, who tossed the complete seven innings for the Spartans in the winning effort.

 

 

Tim Locke suffered the loss for Thomas, going six innings with three earned runs and six strikeouts. Joseph Hersom and Rob Casarez pitched the seventh inning in mop up duty.

 

 

GAME TWO

Daniel Errico kicked off the scoring for Castleton in the first inning with a two run homer, then the visiting side added five runs in the second inning to pull away with a 7-0 advantage. Thomas would score their only two runs of the afternoon in the second inning, as Ethan Henderson scored on an error by the pitcher in a pickoff attempt. Joe Quinlan would then drive in Garett Emery for the second run of the inning.

 

 

Castleton continued their offense, scoring three runs in the third and two in the fourth to come away with a 12-2 victory.

 

 

Luke Solerno got the win on the bump for Castleton, tossing five inning with one earned run and two strikeouts. Dylan McNally suffered the loss for the Red and Black, while Taylor Bacon and Tom Blake pitched a combined 3.2 innings of relief.

 

 

Thomas will travel to crosstown rival Colby tomorrow at 4:00 PM.
