HENNIKER, NH – Thomas College held New England College to one run, sweeping both games of a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Terriers won the first game 2-0, then took the nightcap 3-1 in their first two conference contests of the season.

GAME ONE

Thomas scored their only runs in the first inning, as Kelsey Crowe had an RBI single to score Alyssa Eugley, then Mary Ortiz hit a single to center field that brought home Lauren Hachey.

New England College threatened to score a run in the top of the second when Rebecca Allen hit a leadoff single to center, then ended up at third with one out. Terrier ace Crowe was able to get out of the jam by striking out Brittney Distante, then getting Maranda Johnson to pop up to third to end the inning.

The Pilgrims once again had an opportunity to score in the top of the third, but Crowe once again left NEC at bay, stranding runned at second and third.

Crowe settled into a groove in the fourth, holding the opponent to just one hit over the final four innings, and finishing with seven strikeouts on the day. The senior captain also led offensively, going 2-3 with one RBI at the plate.

GAME TWO

Thomas struck for the first runs of the game in the fourth inning, when Korrie Laren singled to left field to score Gabrielle Martel, then Ortiz scored from third on a sacrifice fly by Lindsy Hoopingarner. The Terriers added another run to extend their lead to 3-0 in the fifth inning when Ortiz flied to left field to bring home Courtney Veilleux.

NEC was able to cut the deficit in the top of the sixth, when Christina Rubiano scored on a wild pitch. The Pilgrims continued to threat that inning, with a runner in scoring position and one out, but relief pitcher Crowe was able to get out of the jam with a fielder's choice out at third to eliminate the scoring threat, then another infield out to end the inning.

Faith Robinson recorded the win, going 5.1 innings with on earned run to her name. Crowe came in for relief to pitch 1.2 innings and recorded her first save of the season.

Thomas will be back at it again tomorrow as they travel to Castleton for a doubleheader beginning at noontime.
