Box Score 2 AUBURNDALE, FL – Thomas College baseball was able to pick up their first win of the season, splitting a doubleheader versus crosstown rival Colby in their fourth day of games on the Florida swing on Friday. The Terriers took the first game 8-2, then fell in the nightcap 11-3.
In the opener,
James McLamb threw a complete game for Thomas in an 8-3 victory over the Mules.
The Terriers had a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning of the nightcap. Colby took the lead for good when Alec Finigan ripped a bases clearing double.
After Thomas cut the margin to 3-2 with a lone run in the top of the sixth, the Mules exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the inning. Jason Buco had a two-run double and Kevin Galvin added an RBI triple for Colby.
Finigan, Soren Hanson, Galvin, and Dan Csaplar had two hits for Colby in the second game.
Derek Kane led Thomas with a pair of hits.
Stanton allowed five hits, struck out three, and walked three in five innings of work. Tim Corey worked the sixth for the Mules and Lucas de la Cruz finished up in the seventh.
Thomas also used a big inning to pull away in the opener. The Mules led 3-2 after scoring a lone run in the top of the fifth inning. However, the Terriers bounced back with five runs in the bottom of the fifth. Thomas had five hits and took advantage of two Colby errors in the inning.
Corey and Buco both had two hits for the Mules, while Finigan had a pair of RBI. He had an RBI single to score Buco in the first inning and added a sacrifice fly in the third.
Thomas is 1-8 overall and will play a doubleheader against University of Chicago starting at 10 a.m. Saturday.
