Red and Black Softball Winless in Twinbill

CLERMONT, FL – Thomas College softball was unable to pick up a win on Friday of their annual Florida spring trip, falling to Lawrence 12-4 in the first game, and 11-3 to Buena Vista in the nightcap.


GAME ONE

Lawrence broke up the scoreless contest in the third inning when Alex Chiodo doubled to right center. Two runs were scored earlier in the inning on an error by the third baseman. The Terriers responded in the bottom half of the inning with a run of their own when Phyllicia Jordan singled in Lindsy Hoopingarner.

The Vikings added two more in the fourth, and tacked on another two in the fifth to have a 7-1 advantage.

The Red and Black's attempt for a comeback led to three runs in the fifth, as Courtney Veileux walked with the bases loaded to bring in Nicole Ryder, then Mary Ortiz proceeded with a single to bring home Hoopingarner. Kate Thibodeau drove in the third run with a sac fly to right to drive in Alyssa Eugley.

Lawrence silenced any come from behind win for Thomas with five runs in the sixth to take the 12-4 win.

Kelsey Crowe suffered the loss on the mound, going five innings, giving up eight hits, three earned runs, while striking out three.
 

GAME TWO

Thomas yielded a first half run to Buena Vista, then proceeded with two more in the second before getting on the board themselves in the bottom half of the second with a single by Ryder that scored Taylor Bergeron.

Buena Vista added another two in the fourth, and a run in the fifth to extend their lead to 6-2, as Thomas cut the deficit with two of their own in the bottom of the fifth.

The eventual victors scored five runs in the sixth to take a commanding 11-3 lead, which would be the final result.

Faith Robinson tossed all six innings, giving up nine hits, while striking out two. 

The Terriers are back at it tomorrow with a doubleheader against St. Catherine starting at 9:00 AM
