Thomas Drops Two in Florida Doubleheader

CLERMONT, FL – Thomas College softball (2-4) was unable to pick up a victory on Thursday in two games of the spring Florida trip, being defeated by Kalamazoo, 4-1 in the first contest, and 10-2 against Calvin in the nightcap.  


GAME ONE

Kalamazoo jumped out to an early 2-0 advantage in the top of the first and never relinquished the lead. Abby Anderson hit a two run homer in the third to give the Hornets a 4-0 cushion. The Terriers eliminated the shutout in the fourth, as a Korrie Laren single scored Ashlee Quirrion.

Kelsey Crowe took the loss in the circle, tossing seven innings, giving up four earned runs, while striking out two.

Phyllicia Jordan was the lone multi-hit batter for the Red and Black, going 2-3 in the contest.


GAME TWO

Calvin erupted for seven runs in the opening inning to jump on the Terriers early. Thomas got on the board in the fourth as Mary Ortiz singled to drive in Alyssa Eugley to cut the deficit to 7-1. Calvin responded in the bottom half however with two runs.

Both teams tacked on runs in the fifth inning, but Calvin was the victor 10-2.

Taylor Bergeron pitched three innings in the loss, while Faith Robinson came in for relief and went two innings.

Thomas is back at it tomorrow as they take on Lawrence and Buena Vista in their fourth day of the southern swing.
