Terriers Sweep UMPI on Senior Day in Twinbill

WATERVILLE, ME- The Terriers were able to walk away with two non-conference softball victories on Sunday in a doubleheader versus University of Maine-Presque Isle (5-22). Thomas (10-23) took the first game 9-1, while sweeping the Owls 8-0 in the second contest.

GAME ONE

Presque Isle kicked off the scoring, taking on one run the first inning as Laking scored on a passed ball after getting on base in the leadoff spot from an error by the center fielder. Thomas would respond with three runs in the bottom half, as Lauren Hachey (Oakland, Maine) drove in Alyssa Eugley (Sidney, Maine) with a double to left field. McKayla Gasita (Milford, Maine) singled to left driving in Hachey and Samantha Moore (Etna, Maine) for two RBI.

The Terriers would tack on one run in the third from a sacrifice fly by Gastia to drive in Hachey. The fourth inning, the home side would again plate home three runs, as Kristi Hilton (Monmouth, Maine) crossed home on a passed ball, Ashlee Quirrion (Jay, Maine) singled to drive home Kimberly Grant (Alton Bay, N.H.), then Hachey doubled to center to drive home Quirrion.

The fifth inning saw Thomas score two more runs to reach the eight run mercy rule, and winning 9-1.

Gastia led the Terrier offense, going 2-2 with three RBI in the winning effort. Faith Robinson (Auburn, N.H.) pitched five innings, yielding three hits, while allowing one earned run.

GAME TWO

Thomas erupted for two runs in the bottom of the first, with Hachey driving home Eugley on a sac fly to left field. Moore singled to left to bring home Quirrion. The Terriers tacked on another in the second with a fielder's choice by Quirrion that scored Kate Thibodeau (Woolwich, Maine).

The Terriers would pull away in the fourth, plating home four runs to cause their second eight run mercy rule of the day. Eugley doubled to center driving in Julie Gustafson (Monson, Mass.), then Sara Moynihan (Enfield, Conn.) doubled to right to record two RBI in Eugley and Sami Lamper (Milton, N.H.). Gastia doubled to left center, scoring Moynihan, and then would score on the play by an error from the pitcher to end the contest at 8-0.

Eugley led Thomas, going 3-3 with one RBI in the contest.

Robinson picked up her 10th victory of the season, holding the Owls hitless after the first inning over four innings of work, giving up one hit, while striking out four. Gastia pitched one inning of hitless relief, striking out one.

#6 Thomas will travel to #3 Castleton in the opening round of the NAC playoffs on Tuesday. The Terriers fell to Castleton in both meetings this season in Waterville, 6-0 and 1-0.
