Thomas Falls to Bowdoin in Doubleheader

WATERVILLE, ME- The Terriers dropped two non-conference softball games in a doubleheader versus Bowdoin (23-9) on Thursday afternoon. The Polar Bears took the first game 10-1, then defeated Thomas (8-23) 13-4 in the finale.

GAME ONE

The away side got on the board early, plating three runs in the first inning. Nicole Nelson doubled to left center to drive in two runs. Thomas responded with a run of their own in the bottom half, as Janelle Ciomei (Stonington, Maine) tripled down the right field line to drive in Alyssa Eugley (Sidney, Maine).

The Polar Bears erupted for four runs in the third and added one in the fourth and two in the fifth two secure the victory. Tricia Thibodeau held Thomas to two hits, pitching three innings and picking up the win, while striking out four.  Katie Gately went 3-3 with four RBI in the winning effort for the victors.

Faith Robinson (Auburn, N.H.) was charged with the loss, tossing five innings and giving up eight earned runs with one strikeout.

GAME TWO

Thomas would crack the scoreboard first, plating home two runs in the first inning. Ciomei drove in Eugley, while grounding out to the shortstop, while Samantha Moore (Etna, Maine) singled to the shortstop to plate home Ashlee Quirrion (Jay, Maine).

Bowdoin would answer with a run in the top of the second, but the Terriers again scored two runs in the bottom of the second, taking advantage of the Polar Bears defensive miscues.

The third inning would see the visiting side tie the game, scoring three runs. The Polar Bears would break the 4-4 tie in the fifth inning, exploding for nine runs to take the game 13-4.

Moore went 2-3 with one RBi in the loss, while Taylor Bergeron was charged with the loss, striking out five.

Nicole Nelso went 3-3 with six RBI in the win for Bowdoin, and Tricia Thibo got the win, tossing four innings with four strikeouts.

Thomas is set to host Maine-Presque Isle on Sunday for a doubleheader. First pitch scheduled for 2pm.
