WATERVILLE, ME- The Terriers were unable to come away with a win in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) softball doubleheader against Castleton on Saturday afternoon. The first contest was 6-0 in the visitor's favor, while in the final, Castleton held on for a 1-0 victory. Thomas falls to 4-21, 3-9 NAC, while the visiting Spartans improve to 10-16, 7-3 NAC.

GAME ONE

Castleton was able to crack the score in the first inning, as Tori Fearon drove in one on a two out double to center. The Spartans would also score one run in both the third and fourth innings to add to their lead. Two runs in the fifth, and another run in the seventh would seal the victory for the visiting squad.

McKayla Gastia (Milford, Mass.) was the lone Terrier to get multiple hits in the game, while Lauren Hachey (Oakland, Maine) and Phyllicia Jordan (Waltham, Maine) accounted for the other hits in the losing effort.

Faith Robinson (Auburn, N.H.) suffered the loss, yielding six earned runs, while striking out three.

GAME TWO

Fearon's sacrifice fly to centerfield to score Brittany Brayman was all that was needed in a 1-0 win for Castleton, in a game that was dominated by both starters.

Both teams' greatest opportunities to score came in the fifth inning. In the top half, Castleton had a runner on third with one out, while Caylee Fleur looked to easily drive in the run, it was later deemed that Stephanie Sylvester left early from third for the final out. While in the bottom half, Thomas left two runners in scoring position, but Emily Sweeney was able to get Hachey to pop up to the short stop.

Sweeney picked up the victory for the away side, pitching six inning with two strikeouts.

Robinson was charged with the loss despite tossing seven innings, giving up just one earned run and striking out two.

The Terriers will host Green Mountain tomorrow in a conference doubleheader. First pitched scheduled for noon time.
