Box Score Waterville, Maine – The Thomas College women's basketball team fell to the Mariners of Maine Maritime in front of the home crowd at Larry Mahaney Gymnasium Tuesday evening, 80-47. The Terriers were led by senior guard Karin Bird who finished out her final home game appearance with a 14 point first half performance. The Mariners top performer was Sam Goda who had a game high 20 points going 9-13 from the field to go along with six rebounds.
With the loss the Terriers drop to 5-18 (5-12 NAC), while Maine Maritime improves to 11-12 (8-8 NAC) on the season.
The first half saw Maine Maritime go 17-30 from the field shooting 56.7%. Junior guard Casey McCloskey led the charge for the Mariners scoring 13 of her 15 points and recording four of her seven assists. The Terriers kept the game close for most of the first half, but the Mariners inside game proved to be too strong as they outscored the Terriers inside 22-6. Maine Maritime led the Terriers by 17 at the break, 43-26.
The Mariners continued to use their defense to fuel their offense in the second half by holding Bird to zero points, and scoring 18 points off turnovers. Maine Maritime's bench also played an important role in the contest, outscoring the Terriers bench 43-16. The Mariners had three players in double figures including Goda; McCloskey had 15 points and dished out seven assists while first year center Bekah Campbell added 10 points.
The Terriers final game of the season is at the University of Maine at Farmington this Saturday the 18th at 1:00 p.m. Maine Maritime's next contest is against Lyndon State College at home Friday the 17th at 5:30 p.m.
