Box Score Waterville, Maine – The Thomas College women's basketball team dropped a 78-66 loss to the Bengals from the University of Maine at Fort Kent, Sunday afternoon in a non-conference match-up in Larry Mahaney Gymnasium. With the loss the Terriers fall to 2-12 on the season, while the visiting Bengals pick up their third win of the season and their second in a row improving to 3-11.
Thomas senior Karin Bird led all scorers with 24 points, going 7-16 from the field, and 4-7 from behind the arc. Sophomore Elizabeth Goodall drained 13 points for the Terriers, while first year Callie Theodore led the team with eight rebounds.
Five Bengals Jennifer Colpitts, Megan Land, Taylor Boucher, Quintina Young, and Arcilla Jefers all hit double figures in the win with Colpitts leading the way for Fort Kent with 19 points. Land finished the game with 13 points and Boucher, Young, and Jefers all finished up with 12 points.
The Terriers paced the first half of play jumping out to an early lead in the opening minutes of play as the Terriers found their stride thanks in part to Bird's 17 first half points. The Terriers expanded their lead to a 13 point gap over the Bengals taking a 45-32 lead into the locker room at the break.
The Bengals got their offense rolling the second half and with 7:42 remaining Colpitts tied things up with a layup making it a 57-57 game. Bird gave the lead back to the Thomas with two free throws at the 7:35 mark, but Fort Kent's Ericka Christiansen tied the game back up at the 6:30 mark and Young gave the Bengals their first lead of the game since the first minute of play.
Fort Kent controlled the pace for the rest of the way as they expanded their lead to 12 points handing the Terriers their 12th loss of the season.
Next up for the Terriers is a Thursday evening trip up to Castine, Maine for a 7:30 p.m. North Atlantic Conference match-up with the Mariners of Maine Maritime.
