Box Score 2 Castleton, Vt. – The Thomas College Baseball team (9-18, 6-4 NAC) was swept today by the Spartans of Castleton State (13-15, 7-3 NAC) in a North Atlantic Conference East Division double header. The Spartans took the first game 13-3, and completed the sweep with a 15-4 victory in the nightcap.
GAME ONE
Leading 4-3 in the opener, Castleton used a seven-run fifth inning to break the game open. From there Castleton starter Dakota Aker shut the door the rest of the way, earning the complete game win.
Jeff Richardson went 4-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and one run scored to lead the Terriers. Starting pitcher Cody Vigue went 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored. Vigue, making his first start of the season, took the loss allowing seven runs (five earned) on seven hits and three walks, while striking out three in four-and-one-third innings.
GAME TWO
In the nightcap, Castleton exploded for six runs in the second inning, sending 10 men to the plate. Castleton's Zak Mayo doubled down the right field line to lead off the inning. With one out, Terrier starter James McLamb ran into trouble, hitting a pair of batters and walking another to plate Mayo.
Thomas grabbed a pair of runs in the top of the third, as Jake Chamblee and Taylor Livingston provided RBI-singles.
The Spartans answered with three more runs in the bottom of the third to push the lead to 9-2. Thomas cut the deficit to 9-3 in the top of the fifth and plated another run in the sixth, but Castleton answered with six more in the bottom half to put the game away.
The two teams will finish off a four-game series tomorrow, with a doubleheader scheduled for 1 p.m.
