2026 Softball Season Preview

2/27/2026 2:22:00 PM

Waterville, ME – The 2026 Softball season is here, and student-athletes will compete in their first official contest at Colby College on Saturday, February 28th. Start time for the single seven inning game is 11:30 AM. The Terriers will look to improve upon their deep postseason run from last season. Each year to start the season, Softball travels to Florida to compete against schools from across the country and will be departing next week. These games pave the way for success down the line by giving incoming players time to adjust to the high level of play, as well as providing a chance for players to come together as a collective group through team bonding.

Head Softball Coach Jenn Plourde and her coaching staff have worked hard to bring in another talented recruiting class, which is made up of six new student-athletes. Coach Plourde had this to say about the incoming class: The new additions "have been a great addition to the team. New players have shown up hungry, excited, and willing to put in extra work. That kind of energy has lifted the team up to be competitive and supportive." Those six new student-athletes are as follows:

  • #2 – Elisa Gonzalez – First Year, Infield - Donna, Texas
  • #9 – Bella Medeiros – First Year, Catcher/Infield – Methuen, Massachusetts
  • #16 – Anna Stevens – First Year, Pitcher/Outfield – Ellsworth, Maine
  • #21 – Isabella Saunders – First Year, Outfield – Great Falls, Montana
  • #23 – Lillian Noyes – Sophomore, Pitcher – Skowhegan, Maine
  • #25 – Emma Lindahl – First Year, Infield – Cody, Wyoming

Coach Plourde will also look to several previous North Atlantic Conference postseason award winners to help propel the team back to the playoffs. A few players Coach Plourde wanted to highlight while recognizing that everyone plays a crucial role were Megan Oberholzer, Abby Farone, and Lillian Noyes. Oberholzer and Farone, both senior captains, were named to the NAC All-Conference squad last season after stellar performances both offensively and defensively. Noyes is an incoming Division II transfer and will bring even more talent to an already deep pitching rotation.

When looking ahead to this upcoming season, Coach Plourde wanted to emphasize the wide range of talent in all areas of the team: "Our main goals are to get to the NAC Championship game and be healthy. With the new additions to the team and returners working hard in the office season it has give us great depth in every position. The girls have pushed themselves and each other every practice. As a team, we want to build a strong culture, clean up our execution, and be playing our best softball when it matters most. If we do that, the results will follow. I'm excited for the season. We've got a lot of potential, especially with new players coming in, and I think if we lock in on everyone's strengths, we can be really competitive and especially at the end of the season."

With the new NAC schedule system, each team will play against each other in a doubleheader. Coach Plourde believes some of those conference matchups close to home should be great to watch. "Husson University and the University of Maine Farmington are both great rivals within our normal conference play. This year we play everyone, which will bring new match ups that we don't typically see until the playoffs like SUNY Cobleskill and SUNY Delhi." The 2026 home schedule is as follows:

Friday, April 3rd VS Colby-Sawyer College (Doubleheader) – 3:00 PM, 5:00 PM
Saturday, April 11th VS SUNY Cobleskill (Doubleheader) – 12:00 PM, 2:00 PM
Sunday, April 12th VS SUNY Delhi (Doubleheader) – 12:00 PM, 2:00 PM
Saturday, April 18th VS UMPI (Doubleheader) – 1:00 PM, 3:00 PM (Senior Day)
Tuesday, April 21st VS Husson University (Doubleheader) – 3:00 PM, 5:00 PM (Mental Health Awareness/Morgan's Message Game)
Wednesday, April 29th VS Colby College – 5:00 PM

Once again, Softball will begin their 2026 season when they travel to take on Colby College on Saturday, February 28th at 11:30 AM.
