Terriers Stay in Winners Bracket After Day 1 in NAC Tournament

Cobleskill, NY – The #3 seed Terriers faced off against the #6 seed VTSU Lyndon Hornets and the #2 seed SUNY Cobleskill Tigers on Day 1 of the North Atlantic Conference Championship Weekend in Cobleskill, NY. Thomas emerged victorious in both games, defeating the Hornets 4-1 in Game 1 and securing a 6-2 win over Cobleskill.

How It Happened:
  • The Terriers didn't take long to get a run on the board. Maddie Morris started the bottom of the first inning with a double. She advanced to third on a single by Megan Oberholzer and scored on a single by Mackenzie Toner to center field, making it 1-0 after the first inning.
  • Thomas added a second run in the bottom of the second inning when Brooklyn Federico doubled, Abby Farone hit a ball in the infield, moving Federico, and Morris drove her in with a single to the outfield.
  • In the third, Kayla Duhaime reached first on a walk, stole second, and advanced to third on the throw. Teresa McLinden's infield groundout brought Duhaime home, bringing the score to 3-0 after three innings.
  • The Terriers added their fourth run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Leah Knight walked, stole second, and scored after groundouts from Farone and Morris.
  • The Hornets scored their only run in the top of the seventh inning after two hits and a Thomas error.
Inside the Stats:
  • Oberholzer pitched a complete game, striking out four, walking three, and allowing no earned runs.
  • Morris went 2-for-3 at the plate with 2 RBIs.

How It Happened:
  • The Terriers started strong in the first inning with Morris and Carlie Jarvais reaching base. Oberholzer followed with a double to the outfield, scoring Morris. Toner added a single to score Jarvais, and an RBI foul pop-up scored Oberholzer, putting Thomas ahead 3-0.
  • Cobleskill narrowed the gap in the bottom of the second inning when two singles brought in a run, but pitcher Addy Boyce shut down the threat with back-to-back outs.
  • The Tigers added another run in the third inning after two doubles, making the score 3-2.
  • In the fifth, Oberholzer hit a double to left field and advanced to third on Toner's single. Duhaime then delivered a single to left field, driving in Oberholzer for the Terriers' fourth run.
  • Thomas extended their lead in the seventh inning with insurance runs. Rileigh Fortin, pinch-running for Toner after a walk, was brought home by Duhaime's single. Corinne Vasvary followed with a single to score Duhaime, sealing the 6-2 victory.
Inside the Stats:
  • Boyce pitched seven full innings, ending the game with six strikeouts and one walk.
  • Oberholzer finished the game going 3-4 with 3 doubles and 1 RBI
  • Duhaime went 2-3 with 2 RBI's
  • Toner ended going 2-3 with 1 RBI at the plate
What's Next:
  • Due to incoming weather in New York, all of Friday's games have been moved to Saturday. Time and location are still being finalized. The Terriers will face #1 seed Husson University on Saturday, May 10, in New York.
