Men's Ice Hockey Earns 2-1 Win Against UNH In Home Opener

Hallowell, ME - Men's Ice Hockey earned a hard-fought 2-1 win against the University of New Hampshire ACHA team on Saturday, October 18th, 2025 in the 2025/26 season home opener.

How it Happened:
  • The Terriers came out in the first period on a roll, putting an immense amount of pressure on the UNH goalie early on.
  • Despite several good looks the Terriers were denied, and both teams went into the second period tied 0-0.
  • In the second period UNH was able to get themselves back into the game, forcing several incredible saves from Terrier goalie Matt D'Ortona.
  • Despite the UNH chances it was the Terriers who found the back of the net first.
  • With three minutes to go in the period CJ Starr and Hunter Coughlin found Devon Fay, who scored to give the Terriers a crucial 1-0 lead.
  • Heading into the third period with the Terriers still up 1-0, D'Ortona was called into action again, making more good saves to preserve the Terrier lead.
  • With 12 minutes remaining in the third the Terriers struck again, this time with Tyler Gay and Quinn Hawley finding Nick Fischetto, who scored to make it 2-0.
  • However, UNH bounced back with an unassisted goal from a loose puck to make it 2-1.
  • With an empty net UNH was still unable to score in the final few minutes thanks to some impressive defending and crucial blocks from the Terriers, leading to the 2-1 win.
