Waterville, ME – Gavin Kane, the previous Head Women's Basketball Coach at the University of Maine Presque Isle, will now be Thomas Colleges new NCBBA Women's Basketball Head Coach. Kane will also take on the responsibility of assistant coach to Jason Coleman, our Head NCAA Women's Basketball Coach.
After 39 years of coaching Kane has racked up an impressive sheet in Maine Basketball, earning 7 State Championships, 12 consecutive conference championships, numerous MABC and Conference Coach of the Year Awards, induction in both the New England and Maine Basketball Hall of Fame, and many other accolades from both himself and the players he has coached.
"Being able to bring in such an experience and devoted Maine Basketball Coach is a huge opportunity for us at Thomas" stated Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics Christopher Parsons. "Not only will Gavin benefit our new club program, but he will also greatly impact our NCAA program as well".
Wilton, Maine native and graduate of the University of Maine Farmington, expressed his enthusiasm in this new program as it will "allow more student-athletes to have the opportunity to experience school at Thomas College while being able to continue to be involved, and compete, in a sport they really enjoy.
Described as someone who can mold and alter his coaching style to match his current team, Kane likes to focus on an up-tempo game with quick transitions, and an active and aggressive defensive scheme. "This helps makes the game more exciting and energetic…many players enjoy a faster paced game" Kane stated when asked about his coaching style.
Kane's first official day at Thomas College will be June 10th. He looks forward to every single practice, competitive games, and working with Coach Jason Coleman and other Thomas Staff.
