Waterville, ME – The Terriers had a successful day at the Elm City Classic hosted by Colby College for their first indoor meet of the season. Four school records were broken along with four athletes qualifying for the Division III New England's on February 28
th and March 1
st. There was also seven first place finishes throughout the day for the Terriers.
Women's Indoor Track and Field:
The Women's team ended the day with 56 points placing fourth after Colby College, University of Maine at Farmington, and Saint Joseph's College.
Emma Burr placed first in the Women's Pentathlon, placing first in three events, 60m Hurdles, High Jump, and Long Jump. Burr was also a New England Qualifier in the Pentathlon, 60m Hurdles, and High Jump. Along with qualifying and placing first in her events, Burr set a school record in the Women's High Jump at 1.56m/5.1 feet.
Mary DiSanto also finished first and qualified in her event, Shot Put. On her fourth attempt she reached 11.20m/36.7 feet.
Chelsey Cote also placed first in an event today. On her third attempt she hit 12.20m/40 feet in the weight throw, clenching the first-place spot.
Savaughn Facenda was the final women's athlete to break a school record in the first meet this season. In the Women's 3000m she finished with a time of 11:43.34.
Men's Indoor Track and Field:
The Men's team ended the day in second place with a total score of 125 points. They also participated against Colby College, University of Maine at Farmington, and Saint Joseph's College.
Sophomore
Josiah Hays placed first in the 60m Hurdles, breaking a school record and qualify for New England's with a time of 8.45 seconds.
Jafar Ojugbele was the final men's qualifier for New England's of the day, he also placed first in his event, Triple Jump. On his third attempt he marked 13.04m placing him in first.
Max Bojarski also placed first in the Weight Throw, he finished with a distance of 14.07m/46.2 feet.
The final Terrier to place first in an event for the day was
Nick Plamondon in the Long Jump. He ended with a distance of 6.54m/21.4 feet.
Thomas Grady, although finishing second in the Men's Shot Put, he broke a school record today with a mark of 13.26m/43.5 feet.
What's Next:
The Terriers will start back up after the new year with a meet at Bates College on January 17
th and 18
th.
