Terriers Fall to Beacons 3-1

WATERVILLE, ME – The Thomas College men's soccer team was defeated by the University of Massachusetts Boston 3-1 on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game at Smith Field. Adam LaBrie scored his first collegiate goal in the loss.

The Beacons scored first, 11 minutes into the contest, with a goal by Elton Teixeira, assisted by Calvin Smick. The Terriers defense held the score until the closing minutes of the half when Edmilson Barros scored off a cross by Arlindo Goncalves to extend the Beacon lead to 2-0 at the break.

The early parts of the second half featured back in forth scoring chances for both squads. UMass-Boston was first to get on the board in the second frame on a diving header goal by Barros. The Terriers answered seven minutes later with LaBrie's goal, assisted by Tre Ming. Thomas was unable to convert on multiple chances down the stretch and ultimately fell 3-1.

Beacons goalie Alfonso Rosales stopped eight of nine shots on goal while earning the win. Thomas keeper Joakim Sternas made ten saves on 13 shots in the losing effort.

The Terriers will next play Wednesday, September 9 in a non-conference home game against the University of Southern Maine. The game will be at 7:30 PM on Smith Field
