Three Hat Tricks Lead Terriers Past Eagles

WATERVILLE, ME – The Thomas College men's soccer team tallied six goals in the first 16 minutes en route to a 15-1 North Atlantic Conference win over Green Mountain College at Smith Field.

Freshman forward DJ Nicholas (Portland, Maine / North Yarmouth Academy) tallied three of those goals in a span of less than three minutes to set the tone early.

Freshman forward Josh Emard (Lebanon, Maine / Noble) opened the scoring with a goal in the seventh minute off an assist by senior Tre Ming (Devonshire, Bermuda / South Kent). Nicholas followed with his trio of tallies (10', 11', 13') in quick succession.

Sophomore Ibrahim Moustapher (Blantyre, Malawi / Hebron Academy) tallied in the 14th minute off an assist from London Steede-Jackson (Hamilton Parish, Bermuda / Cedar Bridge Academy). A goal in the 16th minute by William Nilson (Vaxholm, Sweden) / Danderyds) brought the early flurry to a close.

Junior Rasmus Loso (Jarfalla, Sweden / Sam Gymnasium) added a tally off a penalty kick in the 42nd minute to make the give Thomas a 7-0 edge before Green Mountain got on the board just over a minute later on a goal by Nate Laymon.

Steede-Jackson and Moustapher connected for a second time just before halftime to push the Terriers advantage to 7-1 at the break.

Ming opened the second-half scoring with a goal in the 54th minute off an assist from Adam LaBrie (Yarmouth, Maine / Yarmouth). The pair reversed roles just four minutes later to make it 10-1 Thomas.

Emard netted his second of the game in the 63rd with an assist from Nilson, while Baramee Janla (Winter Harbour, Maine / Sumner Memorial) tallied the first of his two goals in the 67th minute. Moustapher completed his hat trick with a goal off an assist from Emard in the 71st minute. Emard netted his third goal of the game less than four minutes later. Janla capped the scoring with a goal in the game's waning seconds with Steede-Jackson providing his fourth assist of the game.

Jonathan Dutka (Durham, N.H. / Oyster River) drew the start in goal, allowing one goal before yielding to Alex Berard (Winslow, Maine / Winslow) in the second half. Berard held the Eagles scoreless while making four saves.

The Terriers (7-4, 3-1 NAC) outshot the Eagles (0-11, 0-4 NAC), 40-13, including a 29-5 advantage in shots on goal.

Both teams have a quick turnaround as Thomas hosts league co-leader Castleton (9-3-1, 5-0 NAC) Sunday, while Green Mountain is at Maine-Farmington (3-6-2, 1-3-1 NAC). Kickoff for both games is 2:30 p.m.
