Box Score WATERVILLE, ME - The Thomas men's basketball used a 51-24 second half to bury New England College 95-64 in a North Atlantic Conference contest on Friday night. Junior Adam Carlsen had a career-high 23 points, including seven three-pointers in the victory.
The first half was a seesaw battle as both teams played relatively close back and forth, with Thomas (5-7, 3-2 NAC) having the largest lead at 10 on two occasions. But the Pilgrims (6-6, 3-2) battled back both times and were within four at the break.
Junior Levi Barnes had 21 of his game-high 25 points in the half before being limited to just five second half minutes due to injury. Joe DeMadet led the Pilgrims with 10. Both teams shot very well from the free throw line, as the Terriers went 12-13 and the Pilgrims 10-10.
The Thomas defense clamped down in the second half, limiting New England College to just 24 points on 8-34 (23.5%) from the floor. The offense also heated up, knocking down 20-39 (51.3%) with seven three-pointers. Carlsen and Eric Westbrooks each had 12 apiece in the second half, and the bench added 18 points to seal the victory.
Overall the Terriers had three players in double-figures (Barnes 25, Carlsen 23, Westbrooks 16) and made 46% of the shots with 11 three-pointers. The Thomas defense also did its part, holding the Pilgrims to just 34% from the field.
Thomas will be back on the court on Saturday when they play host to Colby-Sawyer College at 3pm.
