Box Score FARMINGTON, Maine – The Thomas men's basketball team used a 49-point outburst in the second half to put away the University of Maine at Farmington 74-60 in a North Atlantic Conference contest on Saturday evening at Dearborn Gymnasium. Senior Mike Akanji led the Terriers with a career-high 22 points, including knocking down 6-10 from three-point range.
The Terriers (7-8, 5-3 NAC) and the Beavers (4-10, 3-5 NAC) battled toe-to-toe in the first half, as UMF had a slim 27-25 lead at the half. Akanji had 10 points to lead Thomas after the first half, while Uriah Forest-Bulley scored 14 of UMF's 27 in the first half.
At the 12:27 mark of the second half, the Terriers built a commanding 15-point lead. The Beavers bounced back with an 11-3 run and trimmed the lead to 55-48 with eight minutes to remaining. With Thomas in the double bonus, UMF took advantage from the free-throw line and scored its next five of seven points from the charity stripe.
After a Thomas timeout and the scoreboard set at, 60-58, the Terriers closed the game with a 14-2 run in the final five minutes to defuse the Beaver comeback.
Akanji led the Terriers with 22, while junior Justin Murray put in 15 of his 21 points in the second half to help Thomas put the game away. Forest-Bulley's career night was a game-high for UMF, and Nick Hilton finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Thomas shot 45.3% from the field in the game, making 12 of 28 from beyond the arc, and 14 of 20 from the free throw line. They also held UMF to just 30.5% shooting and just one three-point make on 14 tries.
The Terriers will be back on the court Friday, January 23 when they will host Green Mountain College at 7:30 PM.
