Box Score LYNDON CENTER, VT - The Thomas men's basketball team used a late surge to take down Lyndon State for a 77-70 victory on Friday in a North Atlantic Conference contest. The Terriers used 10 three-pointers and clutch free throw shooting down the stretch to pull off the win. Junior Levi Barnes became the 27th member to join the 1,000 Point Club in Thomas men's basketball history on a free throw at 14:48 in the first half.
Lyndon (1-4, 1-1 NAC) led for most of the contest until a dunk by Barnes gave the Terriers (1-6, 1-1 NAC) the lead for good with 4:58 left to play. Alex Campbell was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line in the final minutes to seal the victory.
The Hornets came out flying and built an early lead, but fouls trouble began to take its toll as starters Robert Rouelle and Rob Alers drew two quick fouls each. Trayvond Barbary came off the Hornet bench to add some scoring and rebound punch which allowed Lyndon to maintain its lead into intermission. The Terriers struggled from the field in the first half, shooting only 36.7% and attempting just one foul shot.
In the second half, Thomas began to heat up from the field, specifically senior Eric Westbrooks, who poured in 18 of his team-high 20 points in the second half on 7 of 10 shotting from the field with two three-pointers.
Barnes had 18 points to go along with two steals. Junior Adam Carlsen added 16 points and six rebounds for the Terriers and Campbell handed out four assists in his 19 minutes of play off the bench.
George Carle had a game-high 28 points and 12 rebounds in the loss for Lyndon and teammate David Johnson added 12 points and five assists. Barbary had five points and five rebounds in 10 minutes off the bench.
Thomas will return to action Saturday when it takes on Johnson State on the road at 3pm.
